I Need Nobody / I Need Nobody / I Have Nobody

The stage splits three ways — the show's polyphony at its fullest.

- STAGE LEFT — PENNY, at her window on the hill, needles still going, the length of knitting still never finished, the porch light behind her still flickering.

- STAGE RIGHT — CALYPSO, alone now in the soft empty room, the smoke thinning, nothing left to keep.

- CENTER — the precinct: the CHIEF (Poseidon), unhinged, a corkboard behind him, his COPS deadpan around him, and the captured CREW heckling from a holding cell.

Three melodies, three relationships to one name. The number braids them.

Button. "Everybody's got a Nobody-shaped hole — some need him, some hate him, but he's runnin' home, past the need and the hate and the law — 'cause the one thing nobody can hold… is Nobody at all." Blackout on three reaching lights and one empty center. He's already gone. Home-bound.
