Jurassic Park Prime
Ch 15 - The Next Tour
Tim’s bright eyes and happy tail wags told us he was excited for what would come next. His old, wrinkled grandpod had built the most amazing park. It was filled with dinopods and their happy domesticated humans. It was a peaceful place that celebrated the agricultural revolution that his kind started after the great comet’s seeding of water.
The jeep rolled up and Lex jumped in ahead. Tim yelled, “HEY! I’m the youngest! I should sit near the window!”
Lex stuck her pink tongue out at Tim and giggled. They tickled each other as their caretaker Susan asked them to settle down. Dinopods just out of the egg were so energetic and, well, resilient to almost anything you could throw at them.
The three dinos sat and the jeep started the tour. “Welcome to John Hammond’s recreation of times long past,” the jeep’s DinoAI, named Ellie, narrated. The jeep headed down grassy hills to a wide open valley.
“As you know, the ancient dinoscience that stabilized our climate, and helped usher in a new age of dinopod culture, is called Dinopods Eternal. Dinopods Eternal led to agriculture, and from agriculture, dinopods mastered domestication,” said Ellie.
“As the top of Dinoterra’s food chain, the kind dinopod cares for all its domesticated animals,” continued the AI as the jeep entered the first paddock. The jeep slowed as a humanboy on horseback appeared.
“It’s a HUMANBOY!” yelled an ecstatic Tim from the jeep.
The humanboy smiled and nodded at the young pod. He kept his steed trotting forward. Five Runner humans came out to a small corral. Each had very long hair almost all over. The humanboy dismounted and walked into the corral. The humans huddled together on the exact opposite side. The humanboy sighed and pulled out a pair of electric shears. He tested the shears and the battery was still good. The humanboy put chaps over his lower legs.
The humanboy sniffed and then lunged at the nearest human. The human wasn’t fast enough and was grabbed roughly and forced onto its back by the humanboy. The four other humans ran to the other side.
The shears made quick work of the human’s dorsal hair and the humanboy grabbed a leg, causing the human to flip over. The shears took care of the front. The boy decided that the rest of the hair wasn’t worth the effort and kicked the human out of the corral. Its new hairstyle was not quite avant-garde but possibly adjacent.
Lex asked Susan, “Can we see some other demonstrations? I’ve seen hwool collection before.”
Susan looked at a map that also served as a schedule, “Let’s see. I really can’t see the milking demo again. Those poor ladies seemed so raw at the end. Would you guys like to just walk by the livestock and get some lunch before seeing more demos?”
Tim said, “Dino, that sounds great. I’m so hungry.”
Lex said, “You’re always hungry, but yeah, let’s go eat. Where’s the restaurant?”
Susan looked up at a nearby sign that read, “Jurassic Park Prime Rib. 200 Yards To The Left.”
Susan offered, “Let’s head to the left and it’s just a bit ahead.”
The three walked up the path by a long fenced-in pasture. A humanboy was driving his stock with a steady cadence of ‘getalong here now humie. getalong. hep hep. humie.’
The twenty or so humans ran together in a tight pack. Each had a ‘JPPR’ brand on each left haunch.
A scent of roasting meat wafted from a building with a smokestack in very active use. The sign over the door said, “JPPR. Farm-fresh meats.”
Tim yelled as he ran forward, “Oh boy! Last one to the table has to eat the hands!”
