The Jurassic
Ch 14 - The Jurassic
The two raptors were hungry. The shade from the tall Wollemi pines overhead was complex. The masses of needles and cones above left a pickup-sticks game more than a blanket-type solar covering.
BlooTooth stared hard at his prey. His vertical irises focused on the potential meal. His stomach growled and his forepaws motioned in anticipation of a wet and satisfying break from a long fast.
Bloo whistled to RedMund, his mate. She moved over into position and only her eye could be seen. She was waiting for Bloo to see what would come next. Bloo knew that she was hurting from hunger. He looked back at their potential brunch option. Bloo also knew that their clutch of eggs that RedMund had laid would need support soon. He would not let his new clan go hungry.
However, BlooTooth was very wary as this meal moved differently than most.
“EAT ME! EAT ME! EAT ME!” bleated a hairy thing. BlooTooth smelled the air and passed the scent onto his tongue. The hairy thing was not something Bloo had ever seen before.
RedMund’s eye pleaded with Bloo to make a call.
Bloo’s stomach was empty so he decided it was worth the risk. RedMund watched him through the foliage for her signal. RedMund would chase the goat to Bloo and then they’d have a nice conversation over arterial spurts and red organs thrashing about.
Bloo gave the sign and she charged, “IckyIckyIckyIckyIcky!”
The goat bolted towards Bloo, who ran towards the goat, and suddenly the world went black.
Bloo was confused. Where was RedMund? Where was the hairy thing? He thrashed in the dark until a calming light entered his brain.
A moist dinosaur-looking person was talking inside his head. “Welcome, good friend! Do not be frightened! This is your lucky day! You have been selected to help your entire race survive the upcoming apocalypse! Get ready to meet the full team!”
Bloo’s eyes adjusted to bright lights and he saw RedMund in a glass column. Bloo was also in a glass column and they were both slowly descending into the earth. Bloo would normally be thrashing and scratching, but the light kept him calm and he felt his mind changing as they descended.
Bloo and Red walked upright out of their glass columns after their rear talons hit the floor. Bloo spoke, “Hi. RedMund?” This was new as they usually just clicked and whistled.
RedMund looked confused and said, “Hello back, Bloo. This is strange. These vocalizations are so much better than clicks and whistles. How did we learn this?”
From the shadows, a new raptor appeared, “Hello, new friends! We have so much to talk about. Just know that we call it Dinopods Eternal!”
Bloo and Red looked in awe at the laboratories and strange vehicles parked here. Hundreds of friendly reptile faces greeted the new additions.
