X6 Nedrys Move

Ch 07.6 - Nedry’s Move

Nedry sat by himself. His plan was in motion but he was a bit nervous as he hadn’t counted on the typhoon. Nedry tried to run Internet Explorer 6 on his 386 workstation. It took about thirty-five seconds to load from his three gigabyte hard drive.

The Weather Channel resolved as best as possible with 256 colors. Nedry’s talons gesticulated wildly as he laughed, “Haha! I’ll be long gone before the worst of this storm hits.”

He looked at the can of frill cream that his contact had given him. He needed to disable the park’s security in order to steal the needed human embryos. The frill cream would hide the embryos from prying eyes at DinoCustoms at the airport.

Nedry fired up SolarEclipseOfTheBrain, his development environment. He snapped up a meat bar during the two-minute wait for the software to load. His object browser showed 50,000 objects ending with the “cls” extension, around which the DinoCoffeeNeededToRead language was organized. He opened the key “class” file named “FactoryBuilderCreatorSingletonGateCloseStrategyOpenSlowlyButNotTooFast” and looked at the “DoorShutting” method.

Nedry erased the current contents of “DoorShutting” and set it to “return false.” He issued a save on SolarEclipseOfTheBrain and ate another meat bar as his machine wrote data for the next three minutes.

Nedry looked around carefully as the next step could not be undone. This was the point of no return. He pulled down a menu item on his development software under “Build”. His talon paused over the mouse button. He took a deep breath. “It’s now or never,” he said.

He pressed “Compile and deploy.” His machine seized and the park’s systems started to shut down. The development software noted, “Build 1 of 51,296. Approximate wait on first object: 195 of 195 minutes remaining. Total wait projected: 10,259,200 of 10,259,200 minutes remaining.”

Nedry laughed and walked off with his frill cream can. “Off to the lab now to get me some free monkeys…”
