The Betrayal
The skies of Oral were filled with inbound meteors streaking across the late evening sky. Oral’s anti-air defense systems fired white bone shells that burst into sharp shards in the air. The meteors, however, easily dodged these defenses. House Rabbit was attacking Oral to reclaim control of the universe’s only known supply of Enamel.
Paul flitted down the hallway in search of his mother, Lady Jessica. The baskets of House Rabbit were in the skies of Oral and House Molar’s armed forces were gathering to protect their royalty. House Molar had only a few months in control of Oral and, somehow, House Rabbit had received approval from the Dentaper to attack, but someone had also managed the impossible. Dr. Noah, a trusted ortho, was made crooked. He was the last person seen with the Dentist of House Molar and it was obvious that the house chair had been taken. Paul needed to secure his mother at any cost; he flew down the halls and crashed through the royal bedroom chamber doors.
The Dentist himself was nowhere to be found. Lady Jessica said to her young son, “Things are fine and we should be safe if we stay here.” Paul knew to watch for her true meaning elsewhere.
His mother moved her wand towards her mouth a half inch in the House Molar wandlang, “Paul, I am not sure what has happened to your father, the Dentist Leto of House Molar. I fear there’s a traitor in our midst. Could someone have broken Dr. Noah’s orthodontic training? It is said to be impossible. Without an orthodontist you can trust, how can anyone get straight teeth? We need to be on the lookout for Dr. Noah and other possible traps. Be ready with your Bene Hygiene training for any foul rabbitous deeds.”
Paul offered his own cover, “I agree, mother. We are safe here under guard.”
The young boy touched his left wing to his right nostril, “I understand, mother. Let’s make our way to the dragonfloppers. We can hide with the Frefairy. House Rabbit will pay for their insolence. We must find my father as well. We will return fire from the deep cavities of Oral to get back at these sticky-handed fuzzy monsters.”
Jessica nodded at her son and they headed out of her bedroom. They flitted quickly down the hall to the hangar when two huge rabbits blasted from an open taxiway. The first hare started to point his almond rail gun directly at Paul, but before he could pull the trigger, Jessica Exhaled deep from inside her body.
The sulfur-laden Breathed words traveled quickly to the noses of both rabbits: “You boys don’t need to kill each other over me now. Don’t be a silly rabbit.”
Paul watched as the stench of his mother’s Breath took over the wills of the two rabbit soldiers. “She’s mine, you fuzzing mother bucker!” yelled the first rabbit as he fired a yellow beam from his left arm. The second rabbit’s fur caught fire from the beam and he screamed as he fired pastel ovoid shells at the first.
Jessica and Paul ran towards a nearby dragonflopper and hid inside. Paul whispered to his mother, “We cannot leave without my father.”
She replied softly, “Let me turn on my listening devices that I planted on him. Maybe we can find out where the rodents have taken the Dentist.”
Paul hissed, “Are you my mother or a Bene Hygienist spy?”
Jessica nodded, “Yes. We can discuss that later. I think I can make him out now.”
A faint voice could be heard from Jessica’s listening device and they both were hoping there would be a way to rescue the Dentist from the hands of the rabid rabbity horde.
“Where am I, Noah? What have you done to me?” said Leto over the speaker.
Jessica noted, “Listen closely, Paul. You must learn the ways of deception. Your father was always too principled and it will cost him his teeth.”
The voice over the device changed to someone they both thought they knew well.
“Stay put. The Rabbit Rabban will be here to collect his prize. I need you to remember one thing, Dentist. The tooth. I’m implanting a gas capsule in your back molar. Bite hard when Rabban is close. Don’t be confused by his pretty-boy nephew. Get Rabban! Wait till he’s close as he’ll want to gloat over your body. Not too soon as you’ll only have one shot!” said Noah.
Jessica hissed, “The ortho has been bent?! What evil has the rabbits brought to bear?”
“How, Noah? How could you do this to me?” said the very drugged Dentist.
“How? Dentist, it is simple,” the twisted ortho continued as he worked on installing the gas capsule inside the Dentist’s tooth.
“The rabbits have my dear little girl. She’s addicted to jelly beans now. They say I can see her again and, well, feed her the beans they give me. It’s not perfect, but it’s all I have left,” said the corrupted orthodontist.
Jessica snapped off the line. “The Dentist is dead, Paul. We must flee and find the Frefairy. Fly now!”
Paul turned with tears in his eyes but the litany brought him back from despair:
“Decay is the tooth killer. Where there is decay I will drill.”
Paul thought as he started up the dragonflopper to escape, “I will drill, father. I promise this now. I will drill. I will drill until the decay is gone, and there may be no galaxy left. House Molar will be reborn from the ashes of all who betrayed us!”
