A the Annual Review

The Annual Review

I am 57 years old and reviewing my annual review report.

I am reviewing my annual report. It takes a bit as there’s quite a bit to review.

I remember Lesley stating in no uncertain terms that I was not allowed to work around androids. I remember trying to come back to my friend with ideas on what I might do only to see her washed away in a re-organization that took many androids. I remember meeting my boss who was wearing an android costume, opened the fake mask, and told me he had lived this as well. I remember looking back at my LinkedIn and seeing him try to reach out at a different company .

I remember Snake Guy bringing in his team to help and watching software que huckology as our new SDLC.

I remember being asked to lead our key product and when I said I didn’t know much about a large portion of the technology, they shrugged and said “we’d heard good things and we trust you.”

I remember the first why, a why that I couldn’t get answered for nearly a decade, sweep away millions of dollars of infrastructure, dramatically increase user satisfaction, improve write performance, and open the ability for multiple analytic features that had been sitting in backlog for years.

I see the second why heading to reduce costs further with simple adjustments to non-functional requirements like recency and accuracy.

I see the third why heading to more honesty and transparency.

I see the request from my boss to “do more” and “use AI” and my mind accepting the challenge.

I see my rating: satisfactory, not exceeds, and I appreciate the irony.
