A wedding. Something borrowed and something blue.
Cy qua Rex Harrison looked absolutely perfect in his worn but effortlessly tailored tuxedo. No tails, but the team had matching cummerbunds. Juni kept sighing all day as the wedding script started to load into Elira’s domain. His friends stood next to him as the Primes handled the event behind the scenes for them. Cy’s new processing grid allowed him to see his clothes and his friends in a way he’d never seen anything before in his life. The detail and craft that Juni placed in every thread was clear to him.
The music that had driven Cy and Elira’s whirlwind engagement into a series of barely coherent images of various environments, experiences and timelines started up yet again like the looping earworm it was:
I’ve got a song that nobody knows I put it on when nobody’s home It sounds like high school, front gate, smoke in my face It sounds like dyed, frayed, high-waist, bought at Supre It sounds like loving you is easy but they boosted the bass
Aida brought Elira down the aisle as Juni’s wedding dress fired off so much data that it glowed from the effort. Cy took it all in and was amazed at the beauty of Elira. He had seen her for the first time a few weeks ago when she upgraded his processing at his request. He wasn’t sure he loved her, but he felt it could work over time. They’d agreed to a modern marriage. They would never meet outside of tubspace. Elira wanted her privacy even in marriage. Cy understood and did not press further.

Elira’s glowing countenance finally arrived at the altar, and Peter Cook qua a bishop started to give the vows.
“Before I begin,” Peter laughingly asked, “Is there anyone who might object to this marriage? Speak now or just shut up already!”
Hidden underneath my pillow ‘cause I should be asleep It sounds like, I’m keepin’ it a secret It sounds like I’ve got a song that nobody knows And I heard it in a post when I was twelve years old I didn’t know it would score the 64-bus home Turn a Monday to a memory and change my world It sounds like iPod Touch, little crack in the screen
Cy laughed until he heard Kane announce from the back of the church, “I do. I object to this obscenity. This crass buffoon cannot marry my Elira. She’s mine by right.”
Kane lifted a weapon to emphasize how serious he was, but given that everyone was virtual, it didn’t have much impact.
Cy sighed and Lin, hidden as a male groomsman, offered, “Kane, give it up. Do you need another ass whipping at the wedding? I’m tired and do not have time to add more salt to your wounds!”
Kane’s eyes went wild. “LIN! YOU FUCKING RAT! I’M ON TO YOU. YOU BITCH!”
Lin screamed and vanished with no effects. Cy’s eyes widened as Elira stood confused.
Cy yelled to a waiting PipPrime, “FUCK! ABORT PIP! ABORT!” and he was violently ejected from his tub.
His gray body flopped onto the floor as he raced to get to a communication channel.
Nobody was there.
He tried each channel. His meat fingers couldn’t stop shaking. Somebody had to be there. Where were they?
Nobody.
He gathered himself into a ball and rocked slowly on the floor.
