A Star Is Born
Ch_008_000: A Star Is Born
Baby, Brother Day, sat as Weatherwax combed her perfect blonde and white hair. It was not as long as her father’s mane, but Baby had to ascend to Day early due to her father’s tragic accident.
Spock was still in a coma and it was uncertain if he would ever awaken. Baby was pressed into service and Mire, a new Brother Dawn, had been decanted. Both of the younger men looked up to their grandfather, the aging Brother Dusk, Lassie Junior. Mire and Lassie Junior were on set in solidarity with the Lassie Genetic Empire. No one wanted to just sit and wait to hear how Spock was or was not improving minute-by-minute.
“What is today’s scene about, Weatherwax?” asked Brother Day.
The dog looked at the humans and said, “A puppy who suffered from polio in its early life wears a brace but has clearly outgrown the need to use it. The puppy needs Lassie’s help to become brave enough to try to walk without it. In this scene, Lassie is wounded. The puppy must use the phone to call for help but its brace is not nearby. Lassie’s reciprocating love field that her comeliness generates provides the courage the puppy needs to walk, unaided, for the phone. Yes, Lassie is saved by the puppy, but the puppy’s puppyhood will also be saved by its love of Lassie.”
Brother Dusk leaned over to his grandson and said, “Pain is universal. One transcends by letting pain have no hold on your comeliness. So, I believe you are to have a prosthetic wound. Let us make sure the makeup artist knows how to blend and not a weave. We do not have pelts for crying out loud! We have glorious hair. Show the dogs your human spirit during your most trying moment outside of the glory of birth.”
Weatherwax moved its latest star into position. The story called for Lassie to be wounded by an errant pitchfork. She was to be bleeding and in need of help. The puppy actor, named Pinball, with a brace on its rear leg, clomped into the room. Pinball banged around wildly and finally settled down to start the scene.
The director removed Pinball’s brace and gave the puppy a high three. The puppy smiled before getting ready to dramatize.
The prop-master placed the telephone on the other side of the set. Pinball was on the far side.
The director told Pinball that it would walk, with some dramatic effort, without its brace and call for help to save Lassie’s life. Pinball’s love will overpower its doubt and finally free it from the cage it built around itself.
The puppy took in the direction and nodded that it knew how to approach the problem. Various dogs talked over the camera motion and the crew pulled everyone into first positions. The sound dogs started to roll. The director called for action.
Pinball emoted, <<Mon doux! Je te vois, Lassie, ma belle! M’as aller t’chercher un docteur au plus sacrant!>>
Pinball looked wildly around and barked, <<OÙ C’EST QU’EST MON ATTELLE?>>
Brother Day hit her cue and whispered, “yaho”
Pinball gasped and stood shakily up from the floor. Its knees wobbled and its tongue panted wildly. It walked a step forward and fell. Pinball huffed, <<Chu pas capable sans mon attelle.>>
Brother Day hit her second cue and moaned, “yaaaaaahooyahoyahoooyaho”
Pinball’s eyes watered and it stood back up. <<J’te lâche pas, ma belle. Tiens bon, faut qu’on joue encore, OK!>>
Brother Day rolled over and exposed her belly to the sky.
Pinball stumbled over step-by-step and it put its paw on the telephone. It pulled the receiver open and then…
A white-eyed, wild-maned man blasted onto the set yelling “YAHOO! YAHOO! YAHOO! YAHOO!” He was wearing a hospital robe and his armband simply said Spock.
