The Wink Video

I’m in my thirties and sitting in front of my young children.

Zoe and Sadie, sitting next to each other, are much happier, richer and fatter than yesterday. We’re at dinner. Everyone is hungry and we’re waiting. Snake Guy isn’t here so we need to be patient as the food needs careful attention and no reptile meat.

The conversation has lulled and Lesley asks our children if they can wink. Zoe was certain: “nope.” Sadie less so: “nope?” With nothing else to do, each starts with their respective approach.

Zoe is certain that she can’t and is probably right. She’s got a big handle in there. Pull down, eyes open, let go, eyes closed. She lets go, eyes close and she uses her hand to pry one up. She doesn’t like to “pry” and she’s somewhat successful in looking like she’s trying to change a contact.

Sadie has decided that she’ll change her biology at the table. Right now. She has a similar switch and she’s got it nailed to the floor. Both eyes to full silver dollars. Good start. Now the hard part… …I need to break this handle in my head in two. She begins the effort and nothing is happening. The issue is a lack of effort and now it’s on. Her eyes widen, ropy veins in neck, and then, slowly, slowly, in unison, along with her chin, into her chest and stops.
