It’s Christmas Day 1983 and in front of the Christmas tree at father’s home.
I see a collection of gifts in front of a modest Christmas tree. This house has a normal, eight foot ceiling type which makes 600 ft trees difficult to fit in the room unless you get more creative than Santa usually would accept. This means the Christmas tree, packed with the decoration for a 600 foot tree but on a 6 foot frame; therefore, the lights and reflective surfaces could be used for arc welding in a pinch.
I carefully looked away, pushed up my welding helmet so I could see the small gift I was opening. It was a box of business cards:

I laughed and smiled at my father. I’d told him that I wanted to make movies and not end up like some loser gear in a loser mobile to do loser things and end up just losing. Something balanced like that. I closed the box, dropped my helmet, and looked for his gift under the tree.
